The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said a Livingston County man was injured early Wednesday afternoon in a hunting incident west of Belle Plaine in Tama County.

Adam Post, 33, of Howell was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids after being struck in the face and chest by pellets fired from the shotgun of 56-year-old Leas Hill of Salem, Va., according to The Tama News-Herald.

The two had taken a lunch break while hunting when Hill closed the action on a double-barrel shotgun. The shotgun fired, striking a truck roughly 30-feet away when Post was hit by pellets glancing off the vehicle at about 12:45 p.m., the DNR said.
