Salem, IL (KSDK) – A bus crash in Salem, Illinois sent 36 people to the hospital Friday afternoon after blowing a tire.

The Williams Tours bus ran off the road on Interstate 57 six and a half miles north of Salem, and struck a tree.

Seventeen of the injured were treated for minor bumps and bruises.

One person was flown to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

There were a total of 44 people on the bus, and those that were not injured were taken to the Hale Physician clinic at Salem Township Hospital where they were picked up by a replacement bus.
