RAMAPO, N.Y. — New York State police say five people have been injured in an accident involving a tour bus and a tractor trailer in Rockland County.

Sgt. Michael Kopp says the driver of the Trailways bus and four passengers were taken to area hospitals.

He said they had to be extricated from the bus. Their conditions were not believed to be life threatening.

The accident occurred at 5:35 a.m. on the New York Thruway near the Ramapo service area. Both the bus and truck were traveling southbound.

Kopp says the remaining 12 passengers were placed on another Trailways bus that was headed for New York City.

No other details were immediately available.

Trailways couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Southbound traffic was backed up about five miles.
