What is Silicosis? Silicosis is a respiratory disease caused by inhalation of dust containing the mineral silica. Silicosis causes scar tissue formation on the lungs which obstruct the flow of oxygen into the both the lungs and bloodstream.
Who Can Be A Victim? Workers and miners to this day still suffer from symptoms of silicosis. Some of the occupations where silicosis exposure primarily occurs is in mining, quarrying, tunneling, and foundry work. Silicosis can be avoided if employers are following OSHA safety requirements in order to prevent exposure. Not doing so is a sign of negligence which may be entitled to monetary compensation.
